Orange County
Commissioner Linda Stewart

stewart_smallCommissioner Linda Stewart is a lifelong resident of Orange County.  She was elected to the Orange County Board of County Commissioners in 2002 and was re-elected in 2006.

Commissioner Stewart represents the southeast portion of Orange County known as District 4, which is the largest district by population and at roughly 260,000 residents, it is bigger than the City of Orlando.

Being an environmentalist, she has fought to protect Orange County's natural resources and increase the energy efficiency of buildings funded through public money including the new downtown venues.

She believes Orange County is in a unique position that will allow it to continue to grow in a sustainable way by using the Green Building Council's LEED standards for homes and offices and by taking advantage of Florida's natural landscapes to conserve resources.  She is an ardent supporter of mass transportation including the proposed SunRail commuter rail, high-speed rail, and the LYNX bus system.

She takes a hands-on approach to economic development by traveling at her own expense to attract companies such as she did with the Burnham Institute and has traveled many times every year to lobby for funding for these and other programs in Tallahassee and Washington DC.

Recently, Commissioner Stewart has announced her intention to run for Orange County Mayor in 2010.
